Der Komponist schreibt zum Stück: "Paraphrasis", die ältere Form von "Paraphrase", bedeutet "etwas dazusagen" - also eine "verdeutlichende Umschreibung eines gegebenen Textes, mit anderen oder mehr Worten zu machen" (Duden). Ich habe die alte Form des Wortes gewählt, um sie von den Paraphrasen Liszts und anderer, die meistens hochvirtuose Bearbeitungen gut bekannter Musikliteratur sind, zu unterscheiden und einem Missverständnis vorzubeugen. Das eigentümliche, enigmatische Däubler-Gedicht darf man wie ein Gebet - aus einem schwierig gewordenen Glauben heraus - lesen und verstehen; die letzte Zeile mit ihrem wie nebenher gesagten Trost-Zuspruch lässt diese Deutung zu. In Musik übertragen und "dazugesagt" sind aber nicht Gedanken und Bilder, sondern eine Stimmung.
